My sweet rainbow is finally here!!

Madeline • Mommy to 👼 angel baby Jackson (06/14/2017) and a rainbow baby 🌈 Alexander (09/29/2020)

So my original due date was 10/4. But we scheduled an induction for 9/29 at 5:00AM. Baby boy had been measuring big most of the pregnancy and I was considered high risk. Had covid testing done 9/25. Last work day 9/23 it was suppose to be 9/28 but because of the covid test I couldn’t return to work until I had my results. We get to hospital at 5:00AM on 9/29 had to redo my registration. They must have misplaced it from when I was there on Friday. Get registration done head to our room. Get check out by the nurse. Find out I’m a tight 1cm dilated but 1cm nonetheless. Last week at my last ob appointment I wasn’t dilated at all and baby was still pretty high. They place cytotec in/near my cervix at 7:57. It’s left to do it’s thing for 4 hours. At 11:57 they come back recheck me I’m 2cm dilated so they decide to start Pitocen. At 1:30 my ob comes to check me I’m still only 2cm dilated but am 75% effaced. She decides to break my water. Around 2:15ish I felt little boy shift and contractions were full force. I tried holding out but just couldn’t do it. Epidural was placed around 3:00. Get rechecked and I’m 3cm. Only bad thing is epidural I guess shifted so while my legs were Numb I started experiencing excruciating pain in my lower back on the ride hand side. That seemed to intensify with each contraction. We do some turning some and have catheter placed and still extreme pain. Anesthesiologist (different then one before) comes and says at this point best thing would be to remove 1st epidural and place a 2nd one. I agree because the pain is awful. At this point it is 5:00PM. Get 2nd epidural placed and start to have the lower back pain ease up within 10-15 minutes. Only downside my legs because so numb from both epidurals. They were dead weight. I get rechecked and I’m 4cm dilated 90% effaced. About 30ish minutes later the nurse comes to place a peanut ball between my legs. Literally couldn’t feel a thing. At 6:30 I am checked again and to my surprise am fully effaced and dilated. Here’s when things start taking a scary turn. Little man was still a little too high up and his heart rate kept dropping. There was talk of a possible csection if his heart rate didn’t go back up. Luckily we got it to go back up they left us alone for a bit to keep his heart rate up and to get him to drop more. Around 6:50ish my ob and nurse come back into room so I could practice pushing. Do a few practice pushes and again little man’s heart rate drops again. It got to the point where my ob basically said we have this next contraction to get him out. So with the next contraction 3 pushes later little man was out. Come to find out his rate rate just wasn’t bouncing back up as it should have and had we not gotten him out with the next contraction we would have gone for an emergent csection. I also later found out from my husband that the cord was wrapped around babies neck. He has some slight bruising in his face just from where he came out so fast but otherwise is doing really well. Born at 7:17PM. He is 21.5 inches long. Weighs 8lbs 5oz and is just the most perfect little boy I have ever seen. It took us 2 1/2 years to conceive our rainbow and while it was a long time I’m so thankful that our rainbow baby is finally here. Sorry for the long post.
