When to start potty training

I have a 16 month old girl and I'm just not sure when to start. Another mom at work has a 13 month old who is already learning. My daughter is bilingual and prefers Spanish (which is inconvenient since I don't know it) I know bilingual babies tend to develop slower because they process both languages at once. I'm just wondering when a good time to start would be and how to do that with her. Any tips are very much appreciated.

16 months is pretty early. Baby usually will show you when she is ready. My boy started following us to the bathroom and then wanted to sit on it like we do. He is 2.5 and he is doing well, but there are days he still doesn’t want to do it. If you try to force her, it will become a battle of wills and she will win every time.

We bought a little potty at about 18mo and I would sit her on it in when I went potty. She didn’t start trying to actually play with it until around 2.
When she got curious about actually using it as a potty and not just a toy, we moved it to the living room so she could just drop and go without leaving the fuss of the tv or whatever we were doing that she could’ve been enjoying.
After a few weeks, we moved the potty into the bathroom and she went in there and then probably around 2.5, we moved her to one of the baby seats that go over the actual potty.
She’s only had 2 accidents (bed time) since then and she just turned 5.

I wouldn’t worry about how soon others are potty training, your daughter will show signs when she is ready (showing interest, asking for the potty, telling u she needs a diaper, etc...) trying to train them earlier than she is ready can easily result in a regression later on. No need to rush it, especially at 16months.

I'm buying my girl a potty in the next few weeks. Her doctor said we can discuss potty training around 2 since she's not showing any signs at 20 months

We got a little potty and offered it to her, out her in it before a bath and that, but she had no interest until she was almost 2.5, we tried before then but she wasn’t ready, she let us know when she was, good luck!
