PP weight loss surprise after Baby #2 🎉
When I got pregnant with baby number one, I was the heaviest I’d ever been... or so I thought. I didn’t gain much until the last trimester and then I really packed it on! I gained about 45 pounds. I lost about 20 after the birth and then steadily gained for the next year. Breastfeeding was not the weight loss miracle I had heard it would be. I got up to so far above the heaviest I’d ever been and I felt hopeless. When my baby turned one, I started to lose a little. I’d lost maybe 15-20 pounds of the giant amount I had gained after birth. And then I got pregnant again. 🙄
With this pregnancy, I started losing in the first and second trimester and was down about 12 pounds by the time I first started gaining in the 3rd trimester. I only gained about 5-10 pounds total throughout the pregnancy. I was just not hungry ever and I ate, but not very frequently bc I just had no appetite.
After delivery, I was fully prepared to gain while breastfeeding like last time. Especially when our pediatrician told me that I needed to consume a high fat, high carb diet to make sure my little dude gets what he needs. He had so many issues at birth, so of course I was going to do what I had to for my little man. I’ve been doing what she told me and what do you know... I’ve lost (including weight loss from delivery itself) almost 35 pounds! I’m below my pre-pregnancy weight and down a pants size from pre pregnancy.
She said that sometimes our bodies hold on to the fat and store it so that our breast milk is good and sometimes our body uses the fat. Since I was so worried with losing weight the first time and watching everything I ate and stuff, my body was holding on to the fat for dear life! I don’t gorge myself and I don’t eat constantly, but I also don’t restrict myself like I did last time. And the weight is falling off! 🎉🙌🏻😄
Just some encouragement for the mamas that didn’t lose weight breastfeeding like everyone swears by. It is possible. Like they say... Every pregnancy is different 🤷🏼♀️
