3 Months Pregnant and Offered a New job ?
Hi ladies! I’m totally at a loss as to what the best thing to do is if I’m offered this new role next week. I’m on my 3rd and final round of interviews next week (have met with 14 people so far and 2 more next week 🤯), and I’m pretty confident I’m going to get it. I am 16 weeks pregnant next week, and have a 17 month old home with me since I got laid off in June (and really since March when the pandemic started).
In addition to me dying inside leaving my little man I will obviously need to tell them I need at least 4 weeks to find proper childcare for my little man. He hasn’t been in a school environment in 8.5 months now and around other babies so I’m not going to freak him out by sending him to school right away. He has terrible separation anxiety away from me even now and to drop him off at school now I would literally have to hand him to a stranger in a max outside the building on day one. So traumatic. So I need to find a nanny which isn’t easy during a pandemic. We’re keeping very safe still with the pandemic.
My second and main concern is how or when to tell the new employer I’m pregnant and will need 12 week’s minimum when the baby is born. I refuse anything less. Do I tell them when I’m offered the position? Do I tell them after I start and only have 4 months at work before I’m off for mat leave? When is the best time? How do I tell them? How do I negotiate 12 weeks? I hate how in the US I’m worried about 12 weeks when the rest of world has 1 full year! So unfair.
Anyways I’m hoping you professional ladies out there can help me figure out what to do.
