Rectovaginal fistula and Crohn's Disease
Recently I was diagnosed with a rectovaginal fistula. Not The most pleasant thing in the world. It impacts everything from daily activity to being intimate with My husband. It's painful And most women don't talk about it. Surgery is a must. It requires bowel rest (colostomy bag for several months), antibiotics and antiinflammatories. Sadly with what I was diagnosed with it it's a bit tougher to do. I have been re-diagnosed with potential Crohn's. So the bowel rest would potentially become permanent. It's a topic that I think All women should be educated on and how to care for, heal from and help yourself and your spouse to understand.
I'm not afraid of talking about it. It's touchy yes because it's a feminine and bathroom issue that deals with specifically your gynocolgist and a gastroenterologist. I made the mistake of letting it get worse and ignore it because of work and lack of health insurance. But I urge you all to learn about it because it can be fatal if you let it go. Yes it's painful, yes it's unpleasant, but you talk about it. Do you know that most women never have heard of it? I was surprised to hear that most women don't know what it is.
