Fussy baby?

I’m a new mom to my very first baby girl. She’s only a few days old and was born November 11.  She’s so fussy and constantly crying almost 24/7. It’s either I breastfeed her or she will cry like crazy so my husband basixally has to be her personal machine snoo to calm and put her to sleep! I’m so frustrated and nervous something else is going on. Plus her weight was initially 7 lbs and 1 oz and now her weight has gone down to 7.7%. I’ve been constantly feeding her colostrum as much as I could esp since she’s constantly crying. I’m still at the hospital cuz I’m worried about her constant crying and now her weight could go below 10% tonight. Is this normal for her to be fussy? She cries so violently and hard to sooth.

Babies usually drop weight the first couple of days. They should gain it back plus some by their first appointment at the doctor. Put that baby to breast for EVERYTHING!!! She cries, put her to breast. She smacks her lips, put her to breast. She sucks her hands, put her to breast. She blinks, put her to breast! Latching her is what helps your milk come in. Burp often, she may be gassy. Since you are still in the hospital, definitely take advantage and ask to see the lactation consultant, multiple times if needed!! Just remember, this is a whole new environment for her and she is figuring it all out. The fourth trimester is a real thing. Also, with breastfeeding remember it’s a new skill for BOTH of you so take into consideration that you are trying to learn something new that neither one of you knows how to do well yet!

My daughter was like that, she was my first. Extremely fussy for the first month of her life to the point where I thought she had colic. Id look into a tongue/lip tie. She had a tongue tie and couldn't nurse properly so my milk wasn't coming in and she was starving once I started her on formula her growth chart went almost vertical lol. Anyway long story short, look into a mouth tie lol

If you’re already doing this I apologize and don’t mean to be annoying but make sure you latch her at the first signs of hunger to avoid upset. Even if it feels like she just ate just keep latching when she starts squirming or you see rooting.

It’s normal for them to lose weight at first until your milk comes in. Just keep feeding her and your milk will come in. My second weighed 8 lb 11 oz and went down to 7 lb 10 oz but gained a lot between her first appointment and her 2 week appointment. Also babies are fussy. They just got pushed out of their comfort zone. They call it the 4th trimester for a reason. They are getting reused to their new surroundings. Hang in there mama! It gets better
