Newborn won’t sleep flat on his back?

Hi everyone, FTM here and hoping to get some advice. 
Our little one is 6 days old and he just can’t seem to sleep flat on his back. He sleeps happily in my arms at a slight incline but as soon as we pop him into his Moses basket or next to me crib he begins to cry. I’m not sure if it’s because he likes the comfort of being close to myself or his Dad or if it’s just to do with the position of lying flat on his back that upsets him.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any advice would be really appreciated! ☺️

My son refused his bassinet for first 2 weeks and only slept in my arms. I began to put him in it for balls during the day and he would sleep 30 minutes then wake up screaming. Within the week he increased from 30 minute increments to 2 hours. At 3-4 weeks I tested him going in at night and he slept for 3 hours straight. He’s now 7 weeks and can sleep in there for 6 hours straight. He now only naps in my arms and sleeps wonderfully every night in his bassinet. We needed him to get used to it during naps first though. It definitely helped his transition.

He wants to be close to you. It’s 100% normal and natural. We chose to bedshare when our son did this. We follow the Safe Sleep 7 rules to ensure that we are doing it safely.

In my country they suggest putting baby to sleep on his side already at the hospital. Mine has slept on his side from the beginning but if I put him on his back, he wakes soon. I do not swaddle, if that makes a difference.

Is it the original next to me mattress? I had to buy a comfier one for my son because he wouldn't sleep in it. Once I changed it, took a few days but he started to sleep in it. He wouldn't sleep in his bassinet either. Slept on me or at the side of me for 6-8 weeks. Was the only way I could get sleep.
