Santa and Christmas

Atheist here... My husband and I have an almost two year old. We do the “hallmark” version on Christmas and Easter bunny. We do Easter bunny, Santa, no religion though.

My BIL and SIL are super religious and will not be doing Santa (even though my husbands sister grew up with him 🙄) with our nephew who is the same age. You know, can’t take the Christ out of Christmas. That’s fine, whatever. But these two people are so freaking weird about money and gifts! Like, Christmas is ALL about gifts for them. And they are takers, not givers. My SIL sent a Christmas list for her, her husband, and almost two year old. (1. I think that’s weird that people send lists, especially when they claim to be about “Jesus is the reason for the season.” And 2, the first few things on this long list were all over $150....) who does that?! That has kind of always rubbed me the wrong way.

So I hop on to the App, and in the ControversyCorner Room people are debating about Santa and how it is messed up to tell your children about an imaginary man, Lie to them, bla bla bla. Like seriously, because you believe in Jesus you can’t believe in another imaginary man?! LOL

Idk, I think as atheists we are conscious to not share our beliefs to not offend “believers” when in reality they are offensive all of the time. Does anyone else fee this way?

Instead of gifts, make a charitable donation in their honour. You get to help people in need and show them the true meaning of the holiday. If you want to be specially petty, make a donation to TST in their honour 😂😈

The TST does some good work regarding the separation of church and state. Might I also suggest groups that help people who have escaped cults or the LGBTQ+ community

I get what you mean. I’m very conscious to not assume someone’s religious beliefs or lack of beliefs, but it seems religious people (at least in my experience) assume everyone believes in god.

It definitely feels like that sometimes. While I think we shouldn’t offend others by disregarding their beliefs, it goes two ways. Your beliefs are your own and theres no need to be pushing them onto others.

Religious people are nuts, there’s no logic to them so don’t try and work them out. I’d personally just avoid them altogether.
