Changing OB
I am 28 weeks.
So, about 3 weeks ago I started having intense itching all over my body. No rash. Also started having RUQ pain that would also get pretty intense.
I immediately let my OB's office know. They sent me for bile acid tests to see if it could be cholestasis. The next day I ended up in L&D With the pain. The on call doctor told me to come in immediately because of both my symptoms. They did more bloodwork and also an ultrasound of my gallbladder.
Gallbladder looked great on ultrasound. However, they didn't mention that the ultrasound showed a mildly enlarged liver. I found that out a few days later when I was able to review the results online. It has taken 4 days and multiple questions asked to get an answer from my OB's office as to if that is normal during my pregnancy or not especially paired with my symptoms. This is the message I received today. I find it somewhat rude. And this isn't the first time the medical assistant has been rude.
I simply asked that despite my bile acid levels coming back normal this one time if I could have blood drawn over the next few weeks to make sure they stay normal as the symptoms seem to be getting progressively worse. And everything I've read on Cholestasis says that it can take multiple blood tests to detect the issue and fasting can skew results. But they are adamant that there will be no further testing.
I can't help but have an overwhelming gut feeling that something just isn't right. I mean I was literally doubled over in pain yesterday with the RUQ pain for 2 hours without relief.
I feel like I am being brushed off and ignored or seen as dramatic.
I've already lost two pregnancies this year and I do not want to lose this baby. Especially when it can be avoided by simple monitoring.
Am I being dramatic or should I look into switching OB's?
Here's their message from today and my ultrasound result.
And I just realized they are talking about cholelithiasis (gallstones) in their message and not cholestasis. I've expressed multiple times that I am concerned about cholestasis not cholelithiasis🤦♀️
