How bad really is lunch meat?
Because there is nothing I want more to eat right now than a turkey and cheese wawa hoagie

Honestly you have the same chances of getting listeria pregnant vs not pregnant (which are pretty slim). All I’m saying is that Listeria can kill you but were you scared of getting listeria before pregnancy? Probably not. It’s really no need to be concerned.

I’ve been getting Boar’s Head turkey sliced from our deli since I found out I was pregnant. It’s one of the only things I wanted to eat. I’m 24 weeks and still eat it to this day. I don’t heat it up either bc I want a cold sandwich. People ate deli meats for years before anyone suggested concerns for food borne illnesses. Idk, if you feel comfortable with it then have it.

I avoided it in my first pregnancy but I craved it so much this second one so I've just been careful and choosing low sodium, nitrate free etc.

I eat it, but heat it thoroughly. There was an listeria outbreak in October that spanned 4 states caused by deli meats. Someone died. It can cause miscarriage. It’s just not worth the risk to me to eat it without heating it through.

If it's heated, it's fine. If not, it's most likely also fine, but there is a slight risk of contracting listeria which is dangerous to pregnancy. It's insanely rare though with high quality deli meat. But if you're doubtful, just pop it in the toaster or stove for a couple mins
