Do you compromise with grandparents ?

Question

There are some first time parent things that I’d like to do with my son. 
For example:
I want my son to take swimming lessons that way he can meet kids his age, whereas his grandparents (fiancé’s mother and father) want to teach him. 
Is there a balance between what parents do and what grandparents do?

I don’t compromise. If they want to also teach him fine, but I would be bringing him to swimming lessons. 
Given current circumstances of a pandemic we aren’t doing much of anything social.

Nope. They aren’t the child’s parent, so they don’t have a voice in how the child is raised, educated, etc. 
No voice, no need for compromise. Just parent as you and your SO wish 🤷🏼‍♀️

Why cant he do both🤔.   It be like him going to class.... and then the grandparents helping him with his homework. Arent there other things he can do to be social besides swimming🤔

Why can’t the kid do both? Formal lessons and also lessons from the grandparents?

I’ll certainly allow my parents to have an active voice in raising my kids. My grandparents did with me, and I had a great upbringing. My parents will have a very active role in my kids lives and it would be unfair to ask so much of them, and treat them like hired help. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I would say sure , but thats because my daughters grandparents don't follow through and just say shit to get under my skin. Now if they were really going to do it I would be like he already has his swimming lessons and they said * insert lie here* so he can only be trained by one person.....

Have you ever heard the phrase “it takes a village.” Why not let the grandparents play an active role in the child’s life and teach them things too? I went to swim lessons but how cool would it have been to be taught to swim by my grandparents! It’s a great thing if they could share that experience and memory together. Your child will have plenty of opportunities to be around other kids when the pandemic has passed

You are the child’s parent so you get the final say. It’s important to be kind and open minded to other opinions but never feel like your are compromising in a way that you don’t feel is best for your child. Obviously with the pandemic stuff changes lol but the say is yours!

I make the rules for my children. Not my parents. If I say my kids are taking lessons then that's what's happening. If someone doesn't like it, oh well. Not their children to 🤷🏻‍♀️
