6w4d - No heartbeat?

Question

I’m really upset. My husband & I have literally been trying for years to get pregnant. I have PCOS & about two months ago had to have surgery to have polyps removed from my uterus. Just found out not even two week ago that I’m pregnant! 
Started having some cramping and some light spotting when wiping from going to the restroom (never any blood in underwear or in actual urine). Called OB just because I was a little worried. They had my come in today for an ultrasound.
The ultrasound tech was in a horrible mood and told me it’s bee “a week” for her. Anyways - she went to do the vaginal ultrasound and said she couldn’t see anything due to my uterus being up high so she did the external ultrasound. Said I am about 6 weeks + 4 days.
She didn’t really say much. Just said that she didn’t see a heartbeat and that this just might be a “bad pregnancy” and to “hope for the best but prepare for the worst”. She just kind of shrugged it off and told me to reschedule for next week. I am a mess. I’m trying not to freak out but it’s hard when this is something I obviously have wanted for some time now...

My question is, has anyone had this happen to them and everything turn out to be okay? Do you think it was just too early?? I have to go back next week for another ultrasound and to talk to the doctor about my “options”. She has me feeling really scared. 
I have attached my ultrasound picture, as well. Obviously it’s super tiny so I’m not even sure what to think. :/

It will be really hard to find a heartbeat that early on an ultrasound on the stomach. It’s actually pretty surprising they even saw baby without a transvaginal ultrasound. I’d try to stay calm, and hope that everything is more clear next week. Good luck mama! I know it’s really hard to wait!

baby is still really tiny. i know it’s scary, but i feel like it’s still too early! cramping is common in first trimester as long as they’re not like period cramps and you’re not bleeding like a period. everything is stretching and changing. i hope everything is fine!! you can always get a second opinion and if you don’t feel comfortable with this clinic, go to another one!

Are you supposed to be further along than 6.4? I ask because my daughter didn't have a heartbeat yet at that gestational age and was fine. My dr said something similar, like don't get too excited, let's see how it goes next appt. But I also had a missed miscarriage before that,  but the baby was also measuring a week behind on the first ultrasound.  So if you're supposed to be like 8 weeks or more, that's more concerning.

For one.. that US tech seemed a little unprofessional.. but don’t worry too much momma! A lot of doctors offices won’t see you until 8 weeks for this reason. I saw and heard my little ones heartbeat at 8 weeks. It might be just a little too early.
