HELP!!! - Short Cervix at 23 Weeks... what now?!
Hi Everyone,
My OB told me I had a short cervix after checking my anatomy scan at 19 weeks. He’s been monitoring me since. I’m a bit concerned and wondering if anyone is going through the same thing? As well as any advice on this? The risk is having a preterm birth.
At 19 weeks my cervix measured at 2.5, then at 21 weeks it was 2.4, then at 22 weeks it was 1.9, and 23 weeks at 2.0, my OB didn’t send me for a cervical cerclage at 23 weeks because he said my cervix has stabilized from the last time. There is also a risk of rupture (water breaking) if the cerclage was placed. And I will be checked again at week 24 (next week wed) to see if there has been any changes. If no changes he will continue to check the cervix length until week 28.
My OB said that if there is any changes and my cervical length drops again, he will admit me to the hospital for close observation and bedrest until I reach 28 weeks (unless preterm labour happens). Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else? And what has your doctor recommended? What’s their plan for you?
And if it’s happened to you before, what was the result? Did you have a preterm birth? Were you admitted into the hospital early on?
Any advice or comment on this matter will be helpful for me. This is my first pregnancy and it took us 3.5 years to get here through countless procedures. This is an IVF miracle.
Thank you.
