When did you bath your baby after birth?

Or did you just wash your babies head then bathe baby after umbilical cord fell off

The hospital does a sponge bath a few hours after baby is born. You can use soap and water to do sponge baths after birth, but cannot submerge baby into an actual bath until after the cord has fallen off.

Our hospital won't give a bath until baby is at least 24 hours as they were having too many babies end up in NICU because their temperatures would drop after their first bath and they couldn't get them back up.
The first bath was also a full submersion (wash head/face first to limit time fully undressed), but said the idea of not getting the umbilical cord wet is no longer valid.

My baby was born in China, they made him swim in a pool the morning after he was born. He went swimming every morning until we left the hospital. We didn't have any issues with the umbilical cord.

Hospital did sponge bath right after my first was born, then next day when I took her home I bathed her, but not submerged. I held her in my arms and my mom helped me wash her head and her body (avoiding the area where the umbilical cord was). From that moment on, I bathed her like that until the umbilical fell off.

We did sponge baths until umbilical cord fell off. But even those we didn't do in the first day. The first sponge bath was on the second day of life. The stuff on their skin is really good to protect them. so its good to leave it until it's soaked in and then wash off the remainder.
