Since finding out we are having a baby I wanted to try connecting with my MIL more. She's a lovely woman and has always been so sweet with me but I feel like we don't talk enough and aren't very connected.

My husband is fro. Pakistan while I'm Australian so there's a language gap between our families but his mum is also an English teacher so I thought she would be able to talk with me more often in English as I only know a few words in her language.

My husband said she's just worried that she might say the wrong thing and upset me or something and that's why she doesn't talk to me often or tends to use my husband to translate to me what she says even though she can speak English.

Ive tried sending baby updates and things to encourage her to talk with me but she either ignores or sends short replies or just replies to my husband. Both My sister in laws talk to me more now especially after finding out about baby but my mother in law still doesn't. I want to make a connection with her but don't know how.
