Accupuncture?

Question

Did anyone do acupuncture right before and/or after transfer? What was your experience? My transfer is tomorrow and trying to decide if I should do it.  I’ve never done it before.

I don’t think it’s proven, but one of things where its like “why not”, especially as it’s relaxing. I don’t think doing one session is going to matter much. It’s recommended to go 1-2x a week for at least 3 months.

I did acupuncture a year leading up to our IVF and fresh transfer. I loved it in the end and am really happy I did it. My lady specialized in fertility treatment and had so much hands on storylines from other IVF cycles. She really put me at ease through the whole process and was amazing. However I didn’t like it right off the bat and it kinda stressed me out and made me nervous before each treatment. I wouldn’t have wanted to start it right before the egg retrieval or transfer for the first time. It would have caused too much anxiety for myself. Our IVF cycle was successful so far (5weeks right now). I would say if you have no fear or anxiety over the thought of it give it ago but if you feel like it may be stressful to you then skip it

Yes it was offered and strongly recommended by my clinic. I had an acupuncturist do it right on the transfer table and as soon as she finished they did my transfer, then she came in immediately after my transfer and did it again. Before my transfer I filled up with water so I was really uncomfortable doing acupuncture beforehand because I had to pee really badly, but the one after my transfer was okay because the nurse brought in a bed pan after my transfer and before my acupuncture so my bladder was empty and I was relaxed. My transfer was successful so I’m glad I did it! I also went to my normal acupuncturist 2 days after my transfer to help with implantation. The lady who did my acupuncture on the day of my transfer was someone who worked directly with the clinic so I had never met her before, but she did a nice job. 
I’ve heard if your clinic offers it then it’s worth it, but if you have to drive somewhere then it’s not worth the stress to get the timing right. Also, if you’re not used to acupuncture then it might not be very relaxing for you so it would counteract all of the positive effects. Plenty of women have successful transfers without acupuncture so do whatever you feel is right.

I love acupuncture.  I did it before my first successful FET in 2018 (did it 1-2x a week leading up and morning of fet).  This time because of COVID I didn’t do it, this fet was also successful.  If it is something you like and it relaxes you, do it.  If it’ll cause more stress (like for me this time bc if COVID any interaction with people that isn’t necessary is a huge stressor, even my acupuncturist who I love), don’t do it.  I think if an embryo will implant it will implant regardless of acupuncture, but I do think maternal mental health and having the right mindset for a transfer is important.  Just my two cents!

I swear by acupuncture for everything, but from what I understand it’s most effective when also done leading up to transfer, plus if the idea of needles for the first time stresses you out make sure it will be worth trying something for the first time when trying to stay relaxed.

I did acupuncture before and after my frozen transfer on Dec 7th.  Nothing hurt but the needle in the ear was a tad uncomfortable. I wasn't sure if I wanted to do it but I did end up pregnant ❤️ so it was worth it!

I really enjoyed it. My FET was last Tuesday at 2pm so I had a session at 12:30 and then one at 2:30pm. I’ve done acupuncture in the past but not right before and after a procedure bedore... it was nice to have some time to relax and reflect.
