When to stop trying...

Ellie

Hi, I am looking for any advice, motivation, people in the same boat!

Me and my husband both work full time, we live in the UK, so from March last year my DH joined me WFH, and he started a new job at the same time. It was tough alongside lockdown. But we got through. We also started trying for baby #2.

We have a son who is about to turn 5. He was conceived very quickly, first cycle, and when we were 27/28. It’s now 5/6 years down the road, a good 10-15lbs heavier... both of us, and we are struggling.

I think the ease of our first gave us a false sense of security about this process although we went in this time knowing it could take a while. We are about to start cycle 9 of trying. We think we had a chemical last month, and so relaxed this month. We decided that after months of stress, worry, and upset, we needed to sit back and just enjoy our selves. Which brought us to my period starting again today.

We are now on a health kick. We are taking our prenatals, and have been for a while. We exercise when we can but during lockdown after lockdown and full time jobs, the school run and... well, life. It’s sometimes hard!!

Im 33 this year. And I am questioning whether we give it a few more months then call it quits. I want another baby, it’s chemically built into me, that I NEED another one. But maybe nature has other plans.

The doctor won’t help us because I have normal periods, and I conceived fine before. We could afford testing if we really wanted, and saved for a few months, but would that stress us even more. Would it open up flood gates? We aren’t questioning anything at the moment in terms of either of us being ‘fit’ enough, so why should we treat. Nothing appears wrong.

We have been using preseed, but I feel that might be a hinderance!

Anyone going through something similar or could give us tips?

We have a relatively frequent sex life, but sometimes life gets in the way. But we try our best. The first 16-18 days of my cycle we try every other day, then it tapers off after that.

My cycle is 28-30 days.

Usually ovulate, between day 14-17 usually.

Thank you for listening to me vent!
