When should my first prenatal appt be?

Hi there! I’m 37 and pregnant with my first so I’m on a learning curve. I called my OB immediately and they scheduled my first appt for when I’m 9 weeks (currently 4wks 2 days). Is that normal? Seems so far away!

That sounds about right! In fact, I’ve heard of some being even later than that. But the waiting really sucks! The time will drag, just a heads up. 😊

My OB said they are trying to cut down on in-office visits due to Covid.  I’m 37 and found out I was pregnant at home around 4 weeks. Confirmed with a blood test a few days later and had initial appointment with my OB.  (No exam, just questions and such). Not getting my first ultrasound until at least 7 weeks and then not again until 12 weeks.  Good luck to you!

Yeah that’s in-line with what I experienced; I’m 35 with my first but will be 36 by delivery. Found out around 5 weeks, they scheduled a phone consult with me after they confirmed the pregnancy via lab work; think that was around 6 weeks and they had me schedule my first in person with ultrasound between 8-12 weeks. I chose 9 weeks because of early losses and wanted to have it be a little later personally. I then had my next at 14, then anatomy scan at 19. You’ll likely have more frequent appointments due to over 35, younger women sometimes are only seen a few times and I’m in every 4 weeks lol.

Totally normal, my OB’s office said they typically won’t schedule you until you’re 8-10 weeks.  That said, I’m pregnant with my first as well (17w2d) and when I first heard that I thought it was totally weird!!

Between 7-9 weeks is totally normal. If anything it’s better if it’s after 7wks bc then you get to see and hear the heartbeat. It’s still so nervous if you go in earlier just to see a sack but can’t hear the HB and then have to come back again. Hey these prenatal appointments are time consuming esp now when you have little ones and can’t bring them with you and have to find a babysitter.
