Short term birth control?

I am 5 months postpartum and my husband and I are planning to try again once my LO turns 1 year old in about 7 months. I am contemplating taking the combo pill until then as I do not want to get pregnant prior to then. My period is still a little all over the place since given birth so I’m super nervous about getting pregnant. We have been using condoms but still makes me nervous since I never know when my fertile window is. Has anyone been on the combo pill for such a short period of time? Is that a bad idea?
