Play Yards - Worth it?

Question

I am considering getting a play yard (not a pack 'n play) for my little guy. One of the 6 or 8 panel ones that you can configure into a circle or rectangle that goes on your floor.
For people that have one, is it worth it? Both the cost and space it takes up while in use and then after baby grows out of it for storage? My little guy is army crawling and I'm wanting to get ready for when he's actually crawling and think it'd be nice to have to keep him contained to a certain area so I don't have to constantly redirect him. But they are expensive and mostly bulky plastic that would take up a lot of floor space and storage after use so I'm wondering if anyone that has one likes it or not.

We have been using ours religiously for 4 months and love it! It contains his toys and gives him a safe place to play. Usually one of us is in there with him because he doesn't play on his own for long before he needs interaction. It's bigger than the pack n play so he has room to crawl. He loves standing at the side when we get out to do something. I recommend the 8 panel if you plan to use it regularly because then you fit in it too. My mom loved it so much she got one for her house since she watches him somewhat regularly. I like that it folds up quick and easy so we can take it with us if needed and can use inside or out. We also put some foam gym mats down under the toys to protect him from the hardwood. These were $30ish from Amazon and are awesome! Easy to wipe up messes and prevents big bonks when he falls.

I’m curious about this too because I’ve been on the fence. I’ve used a pack and play up until now (9 months) to contain him with some toys while I cook or do something and can watch him but he’s so close to walking that he’s getting too big for the pack and play so I’ve thought about setting up a play yard thing. We have the room for it and think it’d be helpful too and containing some of his toys.

We bought it and our LO will stay in our and play if one of us is in there with us.  If we leave though, he wants to follow us.  We just started using it so many in another month or two he'll play more independently inside it.
