Is ovulation pain real?

My cycle has been all over the place since coming off bc this month. I had really intense sharp pains in what I think was my left ovary yesterday (from around 4pm through the night) and I had spotting that I thought was my period starting. Then I wake up this morning and there’s nothing. I’m not spotting anymore and the pain is gone. Do you think it was ovulation pain? Is that even a real thing? I’ve never felt it before. I’m so confused by my body.
