Weaning pacifier?

Question

My 3 month old baby always has to have her pacifier to nap or sleep at night and she always cries when it falls out. Is this bad? How do I wean her off of it?!  Heelppp!!

Speaking from experience, I don’t think it’s bad. We took our now almost 3 year old’s pacifier away at 2. She was only using it for naps and bed. It was fairly easy to take away and there was no damage to her teeth. I think it’s soothing for some babies. Our 3 month old hates the paci, so we don’t bother. You’re the mama so if you don’t want it, then that is totally fine! But as far as it being bad, no it’s not. 🤗

I am on my second. My first did not take a pacifier and this one does. Speaking from experience, if it’s not the pacifier, there will be another comfort association that takes it place. My first was an amazing sleeper, and he also needed to be rocked to drowsy/almost sleep and took a night feeding on and off when he needed extra comfort. All the time spent on rocking and feeding- the pacifier is much less time consuming and my baby actually falls Asleep on his own and doesn’t need us. My first who needed rocking would sleep 13 hours a night and sometimes wake for like a 10 min feed and was back out, and then we eventually had to ween the night feed (which after trying everything we had to do cry it out), took 3 nights and that was eliminated. We did that when he was like 15 months old. Then the rocking we replaced with stories when he was about 18 months old. Sleeps 13 hours no interruptions. I read somewhere that the first year is of sleep is about establishing patterns/routine but also positive sleep associations. You want those happy hormones and positive associations with sleep so they don’t get anxiety. Also, I heard thumb sucking is a much harder habit to break and if you stop the pacifier before they are ready, you run the risk of that replacement behavior. I say this as I have been in your shoes and sometimes still question myself.

I don’t think its bad it’s probably just more annoying than anything else for you to be putting it back in her mouth every time lol
