Should the filibuster be eliminated?

I’ve seen growing criticism of the filibuster. What are your thoughts?

Using the filibuster to delay or block legislative action has a long history. The term filibuster—from a Dutch word meaning "pirate"—became popular in the 1850s, when it was applied to efforts to hold the Senate floor in order to prevent a vote on a bill.

I'm not against the filibuster - though I'd be open to some alternative remediation. Because we have a two party system, the minority party should have some way to force some bipartisanship.  It only takes 60 votes to overcome a filibuster so in our current congress that's only 10 votes that the majority needs to court.  Otherwise half of the country's voices are essentially nullified. The bigger issue is the way senate and house leaders force party block voting and punish elected officials for voting for their own constituents rather than holding the party line.  I hate our two party system.

If the Democrats try to get rid of it, they'll have to admit their own hypocrisy since they have used it with impunity when it serves their own ends. No, I don't think it should be done away with, but perhaps some restrictions on its use could be imposed so as to prevent endless gridlock.

Yes, for the sole reason that Mitch regularly abuses it. He uses it to keep his people from being forced on the record of issues they don't support but would look horrible not supporting. He was fine with removing the filibuster to push through Judge Gorsuch. 
The dems can always remove it later when they Reps are blocking immigration reform, or another stimulus, or voter protection. Things a mass of the country supports and wants so they will support the removal of the filibuster as a means to an end.
Look up the history of the filibuster, it has some nasty past to bare.

I read that Republicans have decided not to pursue it further, but will be looking to *change* it to something that is similar to what was happening in 2001, the last time there wasn't a majority in the Senate.
