Whether or not insurance covers it depends on your specific plan. You might want to call your insurance provider.
Home birth can be very cheap. I think in my area it’s only like $3000 total. 
To have one, you’ll find a midwife that offers the service, they’ll evaluate if you’re low risk enough to be a good candidate, and if so, they’ll help answer questions you have.
My mom had me at home with a midwife in the 90s in Florida and it was covered under her insurance, she didn’t pay a dime. I’m planning to have a home birth or birth center birth here in Colorado and my insurance covers it, the most I’ll pay out of pocket is $750.

My insurance will cover some of my home birth (70%), but if they didn’t it would be about $2500-3000 + the home birth kit you have to buy. The price they charge insurance is much higher, about 6k.
