Ear wax!

My 4 yo had a wad of ear wax (bigger than one should ever have in their ear, a bit bigger than the biggest on the cotton pad) and so I cleaned them , it’s been a few months since I cleaned them but this seems really excessive, these are likely blocking his hearing? Thoughts? Experience? TIA!
