Is it normal ...?

I met with my new OB and new high risk doctor and they both asked me if all my kids have the same father. Is that a normal question to ask ....? I felt pretty offended but don’t know if I’m overreacting due to pregnancy hormones
-**** yes I’m married. I’m also black my husband is white (was with me at the appointment) and the doctors were white. I just felt very very offended.

They ask yhat question to help determine tisk for preclampsia (and possibly othet tbings). For some reason that no one knows why, women are more at risk for preclamlsia if het pregnanvirs aren't all from the same father.

They asked me too, it seems to be part of medical history, nothing personal about it.

Are you married? They may have asked so they know if they need to take a new medical history for the father. With our first, we had to answer quite a bit about our family’s medical history but our second we didn’t because nothing had changed.

 However they should have at least explained it to you, because no one likes being asked. It's awkward.

Did you have preeclampsia in the past? Studies show that preeclampsia occurs from something in your partners sperm/dna. If all your pregnancies are from the same man your risk of preeclampsia reoccurring with each subsequent pregnancy decreases. If each pregnancy is from a different man the risk doesn’t decrease.

It’s normal to ask questions like that for medical reasons.
Where I’m from in Australia they ask all kinds of personal questions such as if the pregnancy was planned of not, and if the father is supporting and even ask if they are abusive..

It’s just something they need to ask for their records. My doctor has asked it before and I wasn’t offended. I’ve been married since before getting pregnant with my first. So many people have kids from multiple fathers, and it can impact medical history. If there are past medical issues on the father’s side the doctors need to know because it can get passed down.
