When is a good time to start allergen foods?

When did you introduce high allergen foods like strawberry’s and peanuts? I’ve seen that there is a product that is like a powder that contains small amounts of possible allergen foods to help introduce baby to them. My daughter is 6 months old I’m not sure if food allergies are genetic but my twin sister is highly allergic to bananas, strawberries and gluten.

My girl is 4 months, and we’re still exclusively breastfeeding. But she’s showing interest in watching us eat, although I haven’t seen signs her body is ready to ingest solids yet.So I usually dip a finger into whatever I’m eating and touch it to her bottom lip so she can experience the taste. This also exposes her to small amounts of allergens without having a whole stomach of food. I don’t know if this is effective but I feel comfortable with the pace we’re going with food.

My pediatrician was fine with high allergen foods at 6 months but we don't have a family history and he does not have severe eczema which can increase the likelihood of a reaction. I was told to have benadryl on hand just in case. I would consult your pediatrician though.

Usually as soon as you start solids. Just avoid honey until they are a year old. We started peanut butter at 7 months and eggs at 6 months. Talk to your pediatrician about any family allergies.

Our allergist recommended introducing all the high allergen foods between 6 and 8 months due to a family history of allergens. The only one I haven’t introduced yet (almost 18 months) is peanuts because I’m allergic (and pregnant) and just worried about either of us going to the hospital during covid

The recommendation is 6 months. If your family has a history of severe allergies I would talk to your pediatrician. My SIL has a severe allergy to peanuts. They didn’t try peanuts till after allergy testing with my nephew. But he got allergy tested because he had reactions to egg and peas that required 911.
