When to get fluoride toothpaste for your lo?

How old should I be when my lo can brush their teeth with fluoride. She is 19 months and hates getting her teeth brushed, and can’t spit it out yet, but I’ve heard somewhere that they need the fluoride. What do you think?

My pediatrician told us at her 18 month appointment to switch to fluoride toothpaste but to not use anymore than a grain of rice.

I think AAP recommends starting when teeth erupt to use fluoride to prevent decay. Use a tiny amount since they can’t spit out yet (size of a grain of rice)

Our dentist said that! I just brush my 6 month old. She told us to barely touch the brush to the paste for very little transfers.

My son just turned two and had his first dentist apt. They advised us to switch to a real toothpaste instead of the training toothpaste. He’s still not great about spitting it out, so I just put the slightest bit on his brush.

Check to see if your local water is treated with fluoride. If it is, she doesn’t need more than what she’s getting from your water supply. Most baby toothpastes are fluoride free because it’s not good for them to swallow. Calling your local dentist is also a good place to ask these questions. 😊

Our dentist said right away. You use such a little amount that it is ok and good for their teeth.

Our dentist told us he can have it when he knows how to spit it out and not swallow it

i’d say when you know they aren’t swallowing any of the toothpaste, my 6yr old just started using it last week but only when i’m there to watch him brush his teeth bc he still needs a reminder not to swallow.
