When should i tell my boss i need to go on maternity leave? Im due june 9th, should it be end of may or middle of may?

I worked up until I gave birth. I told them my due date and that was all. I would have lost time with my baby if I went out before baby was born.

We have such a short leave time in the US, I wanted every minute off to be with my baby, so I worked until I went into labor. I think most of the other respondents are in the US as well based on responses. I know that other countries have policies about when people should go on maternity leave, I’ve seen people post about starting their leave several weeks before their due date. If you’re in a country with a more generous leave policy, you might update your question to specify what country you live in. It might get you better answers to your specific question.

It really depends where you are and what your company maternity policy is about length of leave and how much is paid etc.  I would find a copy of what your entitlements are and then sit down with your husband and figure out what you can afford and what you want to do.  Don’t forget to look into any government assistance that might be available too.  I would definitely go into a conversation with your manager fully prepared so you can tell them what you’d like to do rather than get ambushed by someone else’s suggestions.

For me, I plan on working until I can not anymore. But, my job know when my due date is so they know about when to prepare for me to not come to work one day. Lol.

I'm in the US and I had 3 months maternity leave. I would have worked right up until labor, but I was the executive asst to the CEO so she needed a more planned and smooth transition from me to the temp hire so I started my leave a week before my due date.

Oh sorry I thought it was when to tell your boss not when to go out.. I wouldn’t take anytime off before you actually have the baby- most women would rather have the time for when their baby is here and most companies don’t pay you until after birth anyway (if you’re eligible for paid leave)

You need to check your hr/company policies for when they require to be told- mine is 30 days prior to needing the leave.
