Questions on maternity leave?

Can I apply maternity leave a week before I go on leave for example: my last day of work is Feb 25th can I open a claim now since it takes a while to process or wait tell the day I actually am considered on leave? I am in California

I’m in California and this is my second time doing leave. 
You can file for Dissability insurance after your last day of work. You will need to provide the note from the doctors office writing you off work. There is a 1 week unpaid waiting period 
After disability ends you will then log back in and apply for PFL. Only the certification of birth is required for this!

I imagine it’s different everywhere, even state to state in the US. I know I filled out paperwork months prior to the start date of my maternity leaves. My insurance/work allowed me to take off 2 weeks prior to my due date but I only got 6 weeks of paid leave for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for csection. After that I had to use vacation/sick pay or unpaid leave for the remainder of the 16 weeks total allowed for family leave.

You have to wait till you’re not working. I’m in CA and am in the process of this. You can’t do it any earlier than 9 days after your last work date 😐 so odd. I made my acct and got all set up but waited to start a new claim till the 9 days was up. Now I gotta wait for work and doctors to do their end of the paper work so who knows when I’ll get paid. I wish we were able to do this in advance since it’s so time consuming.

I’m in California as well and on the website it says you can’t apply a day before your leave from work is supposed to start. For example, I am using PTO for the first 3 weeks of my leave, so I can apply after I use my PTO.

I’m in CA and if you’re planning on using disability I’m pretty sure you have to wait til you’ve been off work for 5 days after your leave starts to apply. At least that’s what my boss told me. I had the same thought of getting a jump on it but I guess not 🤷🏻‍♀️I could be wrong on this so if anyone knows better please correct me lol

My insurance made me do my claim 30 days before my due date just so they have all the paper together and talk to my work and drs

Depends on where you are, I presume. In Ireland you HAVE to apply for the benefit and let your employer know the dates of your leave at least 6 weeks before the start of your mat leave.
