Special needs & potty training...

So my son is 3 (in March) and he has apraxia. It is a neurological disorder that effects his speech. He isn't really able to communicate at all. So he isn't able to tell us he has to go potty yet. We are in the process of learning sign language so we can have some sort of communication with hiM. He will sit on the potty & sometimes go but most of the time he still goes in his diaper. I know it is normal for kids with special needs to not be potty trained but I want to help him but I'm not sure how to. He will only sit on the potty for my husband & he is barely home to do that soooo...not sure what else to try.

I just feel really bad & like I'm not doing enough. He is already so behind his peers. 😞😞

Any thoughts?
