Long distance advice

So there’s this guy that I’ve known for a couple of years and we recently started talking a couple of months ago. He is genuinely the guy I’ve liked the most out of all the guys I’ve talked to in my life, and is the exact type of person I can see myself being married to one day. I have so many feelings for him and excitement about a potential relationship, except for the fact that he’s about to move 8 hours away. I’m currently finishing my first year of college and next year he’s going to play football in another state. I’ve heard so many scary things about long distance and it makes me hesitant to start anything, but at the same time I don’t want to push away a really big and exciting opportunity. Does anyone have any advice on long distance or how to make this easier? I feel like it’s always right person wrong time for me :(
