Are you good with money?

Question

To girls out there who think they are or know they are good with money, what are your secrets? I’m 33, going to be 34 in April and I’m just not happy with where I am financially. So hit me with your best secrets

Live below your means, always save some money, do not waste money at all, work very hard, make goals and stick to them.

I’ve learned to let go of my materialistic habits. Focusing more on what I really need vs what I want. I also like to set my whole month up with bills so I can see it all and where I need to budget. I set money aside for my treats as well- my go to’s are waxing and a pedicure, granted when it can’t be done it’s fine and I learned to be ok with it.

Having a budget is definitely the best way of keeping track of your money. Include everything in your budget including what I call am "allowance" for anything you'd spend on throughout the month and also include the amount you want to save. 
I also have different accounts for each thing, so I've got one card I use for groceries, one for transport, one for expenses and so on. that helps a lot because you don't spend your groceries money on going out, for example.
Lastly, always transfer your savings to a savings account as soon as you get paid and as per your budget.

Before spending money, ask yourself, “Is this a need or a want?” It doesn’t mean you can never spend money on a want, but be cognizant of it.
Look over your bank account for the last month and consider any yearly expenses divided by 12 to figure out what your monthly expenses are.
I would try to cut out almost all wants until you have saved three times your monthly expenses as an emergency fund. 
Do you have any loans? By paying them down early you can save yourself what you would otherwise pay in interest.
Does your employer offer a 401(k) retirement account match? Make sure you’re putting in at least as much as the matching contribution (it’s free money!), and ideally more like something around 10% of your income. (I’ve forgotten what the official recommendation is.)

“Stuff” doesn’t make you important. It’s wasteful and killing the planet. Finances are like a game- it’s easy to play if you know the rules.
Watch the documentary about minimalism from a few years back. 
Take finically wellness classes. Do research on credit, budgeting and couponing.
