What's the difference?!

Heyy ladies!!
What's the difference between  Ectopic pregnancy cramps and normal pregnancy cramps??    Currently 5 weeks and worried this might be an ectopic pregnancy..    (ultrasound is at 6 weeks..one week away)   
any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!!   Thanks!!

My ectopic pains were one sided unlike period cramps, much sharper and more sudden, and way worse. They also progressively got more painful day to day. Period pains make me feel like I have to poop, my ectopic pains felt like I was being stabbed.

My ob told me that with ectopic, women usually don't start feeling pain until 7-9 weeks at the earliest. So the fact that I had pain at 6 weeks he said was actually a good sign, it's unilateral ligament stretching pain, and he was right, it wasn't ectopic.

What's the difference?!
