How do you plan a home birth?

Question

Hey don’t know much about home births but was wondering what all you need to do. Here’s some questions I would love answered.
1.I heard most insurances don’t cover it. How much does it cost usually?
2.Who all needs to be there? (Midwife, doula, and etc) 
3. What all do you need (birthing pool etc)
4. What do you do about birth certificate how does that work?

I plan to do a home birth and will most likely be water birth. My insurance will reimburse a portion of it but I have to pay out of pocket prior to birth and do the reimbursement after. I believe my midwife center (it's a group of them that are all previous L&D nurses that I'm using) charges $4600 which include the midwife and assistant.  I may or may not add a doula I'm trying to figure that all out still and need to ask about the birth certificate!

I'm planning a home birth for my current pregnancy. I'm in Canada so I'm not much help with the first question since ours are covered. You dont have to get a doula, but they are a great asset if you're concerned about coping mechanisms. You will need a midwife. I would research midwives in your area, from what I've heard they aren't all the same in the states. You'd be wanting a registered nurse/midwife though. Generally their spots can fill up quickly so you'll want to try and find one early in your pregnancy.
You don't have to get a birthing tub, but I honestly would recommend it as it can be a huge help for dealing with pain. I actually had a waterbirth for my first and it was an awesome experience. My body instantly relaxed as soon as I got in the water. But again, it is not required and will be an additional cost to rent (in Canada they are about $250CAD for a 3 week rental). As the other commenter mentioned, once you find a midwife they will be able to go over everything that is required for a home birth 💕

I would watch YouTube vids about it or speak with a midwife. Usually midwives tell you everything you need to know.
