What hurts more?

I want a side-boob/ rib tattoo but am scared of the pain! I know this is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo. I’m ok with freezing needles in my mouth but am wondering if it’s comparable to the discomfort felt when getting a tattoo. Thanks!

Ribs will be different, but my arm tattoo felt like someone was running a hot mechanical pencil over my skin. It was a weird warm pain that was pretty dull compared to what I expected. When he went by my bone it stung, but it was definitely tolerable

My dentist always numbed the area before putting a needle in so there was no pain there 😂 I have both my sides done and I took a nap through most of it. It’s not a comfortable feeling but it’s not unbearable

It’s a different pain. Also in different areas do it’s kind of incomparable.. plus everyone’s pain tolerance is so different. Personally I have a high pain tolerance. But when I got my tattoos on my ribs the artist always did a little test with no ink to see if I could handle it.

You can't compare since the needle in the gum takes at most 10 seconds, while a tattoo takes at least 30 minutes. So even if it's less painful, the needle at the dentist will be done by the time you blink while the tattoo will keep on hurting for a long time. So I'm saying tattoo.

It’s hard to say. Every tattoo is different for every person. What’s a really sensitive area on one person may not be that sensitive on another. That being said the rib cage is a commonly sensitive spot but fatty areas (like boobs) are places a lot of people don’t struggle with. also totally depends on your artist. Are they light handed or heavy handed? And also how your body reacts to the inks they use. Certain colors hurt so much worse for me than others. There are tons of variables. Also keep in mind that a lidocaine injection you’re getting stabbed once in a few different locations whereas a tattoo you’re getting stabbed several hundred times a minute often in unpredictable places. But it doesn’t go as deep as a lidocaine shot. It’s one of those apples and oranges things.

my dentists always wiggled my cheeks and i never felt it. i got numbing cream on my ribs and it still hurt pretty bad, altho my arm tattoo hurt more overall cause that wasn’t numbed

It’s a different kind of pain. Honestly, a lot of mine tickled until they hit bone. That mostly felt like a mini-jackhammer, but nothing intolerable.
