Labor home till contractions 3 mins apart?

Hi! I’m not due till September but am starting to mentally prepare for an unmedicated birth, since I had an awful experience with an epidural last time. We live 9 minutes from the hospital and this is my second baby. Do you think it is reasonable to labor at home until my contractions are 3 minutes apart (the 3-1-1 rule)? I want to stay home as long as possible and basically just be in the hospital to push but I don’t want a car baby lol

I followed that rule for my second. He was born an hour after I got to the hospital 🙂

I’d recommend going more off intensity than timing. Especially since this is your second. I have no clue how far apart my contractions were but with my second I labored in the bath until I was really having to focus and breathe through them and got to the hospital at 8cm dilated. Aiming for the same again but shooting for maybe 9cm 😂 with my first my water broke immediately and we went to the hospital right away and it was 18 hours. Ugh that sucked. I still went unmedicated but omg it was so much more comfortable at home eating, drinking and bathing.

With my first the hospital was 30 minutes away and wouldn't admit me until they were 3-1-1. They made me drive back home because they were 3.5 minutes apart despite being 1.5 minutes long and going on for 10 hours. You'll be totally fine. If you have to birth in a hospital and want a minimal intervention birth, the best thing is to show up as late you can.

Depends on how far the hospital is lol. I usually go in at 5mins apart and baby is born an hour later.
