Birth story; partial failed epidural?

Allyson

I wanted to share my birth story...

I was due March 27 but little man decided to come on March 16. I woke up at 3:30 and had the urge to pee in the middle like every other night and as I was walking to the restroom my water broke. I ended up going to L&D soon after since I was gbs positive and knew I needed antibiotics. Fast forward when I got to L&D I was checked and only 1cm dilated and 70% effaced, i knew It might be a long labor especially since I was a ftm. I was told I only had 20 hrs to give birth and after that I had to have a csection. I was given antibiotics and pitocin to progress my labor and was told I couldn’t get the epidural till I was 4cm so it felt like an eternity till then lol. Babies heart rate kept dropping and my pitocin had to be lowered and I was put on oxygen and it also slowed down my progression. At about 1pm my nurse came in and told me I either get the epidural now or I won’t get it because the anesthesiologist was going to be on a csection I would miss my window to get it after. Man was the epidural amazing! Those pitocin contractions are no joke. After my epidural I “complained” to my nurse about my right leg feeling super heavy and how I wasn’t able to move it but the other side I was able to move and I still felt it. I was given a peanut ball to help further progress my labor and taken off pitocin because babies heart rate kept dropping further. Fast forward to about 530 pm my doctor finally came in and checked me and I was at a 9 and completely thinned out. He said he had a csection and after he would come to check to see if I was completely dilated. About this time I started to feel contractions on my left side and they were pretty intense (this is the side I could still feel the whole time). My nurses kept saying I wasn’t really sure what I was feeling and it was more than likely pressure from the baby being so low but it was only on my left side? At about 7pm I started doing practice pushes with my nurses being I was already 10 cm, at this time my epidural had finished completely. I ended up feeling everything. My doctor came in about 740ish and after 4 pushes my little man was born at 7:52 pm at 5lb 15oz.
