Surgery during pregnancy

GF

Hi. So I’m pregnant for the first time, soon going into 2nd trimester and my husband might need surgery soon. He’s had a hernia for the past, I don’t know, 5 years? Doc said it wasn’t bad enough to operate on when he got his other hernia repaired 5 years ago. But now it’s getting worse and he picked up something unexpectedly heavy yesterday and now has greater pain. When he laughs, passes gas or puts pressure on it.

Last time he got this surgery we had a little family support. His mom came to help for a few days. He is a miserable complaining patient and doesn’t do well with pain meds, he hates the way they make him feel but also the surgery was painful (i know, duh). Now we live in a town with no family or friends. Just me and him. I’m worried that it will be difficult to care for him (for at least a month) by myself as my belly starts to grow soon. I remember last surgery I had to help him up and down out of bed because he couldn’t use his tummy muscles for a while until healed.

I’m just worried. I know life happens and I’ll deal with it when it comes. I also know that he’ll put it off for as long as he can because he dislikes the doctor especially since we are on government aid and it take like 1-3 months to get an appointment (pre-covid) and the doctor choices are limited.
