I wish I was wearing someone else’s shoes. I’ve never wished that more! These booties were the hardest thing I’ve ever had to walk in.

I miscarried my first pregnancy at 10 weeks on January 16, 2021 - two weeks into my S1 semester of nursing school. The semester I had my Maternity/Pediatric rotation. When I put on these booties I was not prepared for how heavy my grief would feel by the end of my 12-hour rotation on the L&D floor.

I was just the student nurse who assisted with two vaginal births and watched three c-sections. The student nurse praying for the mother being discharged after losing her baby at 37 weeks. The student nurse who quietly stood there with the loudest heartbreak and hid my grief as I helped care for these mothers. I hate this rotation!
