When will my milk come?

I'm 5 days postpartum trying to breastfeed but baby is never satisfied with the colostrum! He would nurse for a very long time and still be hungry and have to supplement with formula.

Try not to supplement. You need to keep baby on the breast as much as possible. Even if it’s every hour. His tummy is only the size of a cherry right now and babies digest Breastmilk super fast so they have to eat frequently. Get comfortable on the couch with lots of water and snacks and binge watch a tv show. Breastfeeding it hard in the beginning but it does get easier. I promise.

Mature milk usually comes in between 5-7 days. A baby's stomach is really small at the beginning so they don't need a whole lot. How long are his feeds? It's normal for a feed to be very long at the beginning (30 -40 minutes) they eventually get shorter as he becomes an efficient nurser. It's also very very normal for him to feed every hour or less. It means he is cluster feeding  (if he is doing this at a certain time of the day). Breast milk is more easily digested than formula and takes less time. So the 2-3 every hour does not work with breast milk at the beginning.  Feeding on demand is the way to go if breastfeeding is your goal. The first month will feel like you are constantly feeding, newborns eat A LOT!!!! 
Is he satisfied after feeds? Does he unlatches or do you stop the feed? Normally babies get "milk drunk" and stop the feeds themselves or fall asleep. That's how you know they are fully satisfied. First, I would rule out gas, try burping him throughout the feed and switch sides every 10- 15 minutes so he gets more milk. Don't offer formula unless he lost more the 10% of his weight or its recommended by your lactation consultant (if you have one). Although losing weight during the first week (~7-10%) is very normal, but anything more than that needs assistance.

Mine came in on day 4. Baby nursed constantly. I didn’t get engorged, just a little sore when it came in.
