Should I just tell my dad why my boyfriend doesn't like guns
My dad has been getting on my nerves with all the comments he keeps making about my boyfriend. We are a gun family. We've always had guns, we've gone to the shooting range, we hunt. Huge gun family. My boyfriend is the exact opposite and hates guns, but I do understand why. His dad left him when he was 2 and he had an extremely mentally ill mother. She ended up shooting herself in the head but how it was done was super fucked. He was 8 and she was talking to him about how much she loved him and told him to turn around and don't look until she says so. So he did and he heard a gun shot, turned away and saw his mom had shot herself in the head. So now gun shots trigger him really bad. Even if we watch a movie and there's a gun shot it can throw him into an anxiety attack. He is in therapy, but still has that fear of guns. We live together and obviously we don't have a gun. My dad makes comments towards my boyfriend saying "Stop being a pussy, my daughter needs a gun"
"I can't believe she would date someone like you"
"I hope she finds a real man"
And whenever the family gets together he will talk shit about my boyfriend to the family IN FRONT OF HIM! That's just rude!
I feel like if I just tell him why then he will finally understand and not be a dick. I would just tell him not to tell anyone else and not let my boyfriend know I told him. But at the same time it's not my trauma to tell and its breaking trust. What are your opinions?
