Trigger Warning: Child Death/Murder

A heartbreaking story is coming out of El Paso, where a 1 year old boy was murdered by a 24 year old man who was babysitting him while his mom was at work.

I’ve pasted paragraphs from the article, but it isn’t the entire article. I googled “El Paso capital murder” and chose KFoxTV.

“A man was booked into the El Paso County Detention Center Monday for the death of an infant.

Marvin Rex Lake, 24, was arrested Monday and charged with capital murder, according to jail records.

El Paso police said Lake was arrested in connection with the slaying of 1-year-old Ahren Joshua DeHart.

DeHart was admitted into the hospital in critical condition and was soon placed on life-support, as his injuries were described by doctors as acute and non-accidental.

The affidavit listed the boy's injuries as brain damage, a skull fracture, hemorrhaging of the lung, abdominal injuries and bruising.

DeHart died from his injuries on Friday, April 16, police said.

Lake told police, "I did not hurt his head, I only caused the internal injuries" during the conversation at police headquarters.

On Monday, April 19, a Medical Examiner declared DeHart's death intentional trauma/homicide.

On that same day, Lake was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for capital murder in the death of DeHart.

Lake was issued no bond and remains in jail.”

Do you feel like capital murder is deserving? It’s punishable by death (talking about Texas here). I know a lot of you do not support the death penalty, but what about cases concerning children? I originally saw this on a local El Paso IG account and a lot of commenters said he’ll get what’s coming to him in prison.

Now that I’m a mother of two young children, this terrifies me. I’m so scared to leave my children in the care of anyone besides close family and a select few very trusted friends. Babysitters and daycares are so scary.
