Did you get to hold your baby or have skin to skin contact in the delivery room after a csection?

I don’t want them to take her away right after and have to wait to see her.

I had an emergency csection with a preemie. I didn’t get to meet my son at all for 2 days because I went to the ICU after as well. So although my situation is a little different, my answer is no.

Yes I did! And this was July of 2020, during Covid too...

I had two scheduled c-sections. First I was under general anesthesia and our son needed some breathing assistance. My husband did skin to skin as soon as he was able. Second I had a spinal and my arms were strapped to boards per standard operating procedure. My husband held her next to me so I could snuggle her. I held her as soon as I got to recovery, which was maybe 15 min. Honestly even then it was only semi safe because I was so out of it due to the drugs and my BP plummeting that I barely knew she was there.

With my son he was technically an emergency csection, I got to see him for about 30 Seconds and off he went. Then my husband knew how important skin to skin was to me so he did the time with our son on his chest while was being closed up and then in recovery. It was frustrating not seeing him, but my husband and son have such a bond.
I had my csection consult for baby 2 today and my surgeon said as long as everything goes smoothly I’ll be able to have her placed on my chest or possibly feed her and such right away. All depends how we’re both doing. If not I want my husband to get that skin to skin time again 🥰

Answer

Put it in your birth plan, make sure your birth partner and doctor know you want baby on you right away.  It won’t be as long but if there are no complications, there’s no reason baby can’t be with you for a bit.  I know some women even have had their husband or nurse help them breastfeed while they got stitched back up!
