My last name is Williams.

I don’t want our child to have my last name. Fully into our child having dads last name. However my mother is saying the child shouldn’t have the hyphenated last name of the father. If the child has a hyphenated last name it would be from their mother and father.

Therefore the child’s last name should just be Turner from the dads dad last name.

I’m confused how hyphenated names work when you have a kid.
