Pre baby shower buys?

What did you buy/stock up on before you had a baby shower? Did you wait to see what all you got and then started buying? Or buy a little at a time?

I got all the big items ahead of time: nursery furniture, carseat, stroller
But otherwise I waited until after my shower to get stuff.

We waited until after, and it was a good decision. The things we got doubles of or didn't plan to use we got in store credit for and were able to get the things we didn't get but actually needed.
