Where should the car seat go?

Check the manual for your car.  Middle is usually best but my middle seat doesn’t have latch and my straps didn’t extend far enough to use the “shared” latches so my son is behind the passenger seat

Middle is best but my car doesn't allow for it so I have it behind the passenger seat so I can see her in the mirror and reach back if necessary.

Statistically, if your seat can’t go in the middle, behind the driver is best. We subconsciously want to protect ourselves in an emergency, and will react accordingly if we see a car coming at our side.

technically you should look in your car's manual. they will tell you where the safest spot is for your car specifically! 
i am soon to have two, so in my Honda Insight i have no choice but to place one on each side.

If you have a middle back seat then that’s where it should go. When I had my first I didn’t know and the nurse actually had us move it to the middle.
