How long does one stay at the hospital after giving birth?

Ladies, I live in California LA area to be specific I’m a ftm and was wondering how long is the stay at the hospital after giving birth? Just curious to know if I should pack an outfit on my hospital bag. Tyia💗
Also does having a c-section require more stay?

With my first and only baby I had a vaginal delivery and had alot of complications. I needed a blood transfusion I was in recovery for 3 days.

At my hospital an uncomplicated vaginal birth is just one night. I believe the stay is longer for a csection but I don’t know how much longer. Also if there’s any minor complications with baby it could add an extra night (I had an uncomplicated vaginal deliver and stayed 2 nights so baby could be monitored because he was born 3 weeks early)

I live in NC and it depends. If you go all natural you can leave the next day. If you do epidural it’s 32 hours after unless you have a bowel movement. C sections is 3 days.

If it is your first baby, a lot of hospitals will have you stay 2 midnights after birth to make sure baby is ok (a lot happens at 24 hours of life; weight, labs, bath, circumcision if you want one.) 
If you’ve had a baby before, you can typically leave after 24 hours, if aforementioned baby evaluation is ok. 
If you have a c section, prepare to stay at least 96 hours after delivery.
Of course all of this is state and hospital dependent.

I stayed 3 days with my son. I had a vaginal vacuum assisted delivery with epidural. My son was not eating well and was jaundiced and needed some time to get better.
I stayed about 36 hours post delivery with my daughter. She was a vaginal delivery, ate like a champ, and I was unmedicated.

The standard is 2-3 days vaginal birth and 3-4 days c section, but YOU can request an early discharge if you want one. By law they cannot initiate that or even suggest it, but if it comes from the patient and the obgyn and pediatrician agree, you can leave earlier
