How long until my boobs stop hurting ?

Ok so I’m no stranger to breastfeeding, my oldest nursed to 20 months and my middle nursed for 15 months we are 10 days in and the first 30-45 seconds is still toe curling bite my lip painful! It obviously doesn’t hurt the whole time just the initial latching. How long until my nipples toughen up? I don’t really remember the time frame of these early weeks? Anything I can do to speed it up or help with this? Thanks!

I’m going through this at the moment as well. I don’t know why I thought my body would have some sort of memory that would lessen the pain, but it still feels like tiny little bear traps on my nipples every time she latches. I remember 3 weeks being the magic number with my first and hope that things will get easier by then this time as well.

2-6 weeks.. I’m hoping since my son still nurses this doesn’t happen to me. That was almost worse then csection pain lol

I’m having the same with my third. He’s 2.5 weeks now. It was worse in the start because I had after pains and I felt the contractions in my back 😖 now it’s only the initial bite on the nipple. He has a good latch and I never had the scabs and bleeding like I did with my second who had a shallow latch but it still hurts when he clamps on the boob.

My lactation consultant told me if nursing is hurting my nipples too much, it’s likely due to a shallow latch. If you squeeze the breast like a burger style and then let baby latch, it could help getting a deeper latch and potentially help with nipple pain

Mine was awful until my milk fully came in and then they healed up pretty quickly. Initial latch still feels a little painful every once in a while but I just take her off and try the latch again
