31 weeks 5 days

So now I’m on bed rest at 31 weeks 5 days, I went in to the ER on Wednesday at 9:30 pm for severe back pain that I was suspecting as contractions. A few hours later, after an ultrasound finding that my cervix was shortened, initial cervical exam showed that I was completely closed and cervix was firm, a few hours later on another exam I was still closed but was progressing, my cervix was soft and I was technically in early pre-term labor, with contractions coming every 4-5 minutes and increasing in intensity. I was given Procardia to try and stop the contractions but they weren’t stopping, just progressing. The decision was made by my OB to hospitalize me for 24 hours. I was placed on IV Magnesium to stop the contractions, I was given an initial steroid injection at 3:30am on Thursday morning, to develop my sons lungs faster in case he was to be delivered. Throughout the next 24 hours I was going through hell on the Magnesium and with the lack of sleep and I was dizzy and disoriented and had severe chest pain on the medication. I was vomiting even with nothing in my stomach. The contractions were painful, but nothing compared to how I felt towards the end of the 24 hours on the Magnesium. I was getting blood levels checked every 6 hours, they could only draw from my one arm as the other had the IV so now my arm is black and blue. Luckily even though I was so uncomfortable the contractions were getting less frequent throughout the day. I had to have a foley placed as I couldn’t get up to use the bathroom and had begun to urinate myself. Towards 3am this morning which was our goal to reach to get the second steroid injection my contractions had started to become almost nonexistent. I received the second steroid injection and was able to be taken off the Magnesium (THANK GOD)! My OB came this morning to let me know that I was going home, YAY, but I am now on bed rest and have to take Procardia every 6 hours to keep the contractions under control. I am to go in for NST 2 times a week. Hoping to make it till 34 weeks, thoughts and prayers are appreciated! Definitely not how I saw my first pregnancy going! So overwhelmed but glad I got the amazing care I received from all of the staff! ❤️❤️❤️
